Download Time Calculator
Estimate how long a file takes to download. Free, fast and easy to use.
How it works
Download time equals file size divided by connection speed. The result is the theoretical minimum; real downloads are usually 10–20 % slower because of protocol overhead and network conditions.
Formula
t [s] = GB × 8000 / Mbps
Worked examples
- File size (GB): 50 · Speed (Mbps): 100 → Download time: 1 h 6 min
- File size (GB): 1.5 · Speed (Mbps): 20 → Download time: 10 min
- File size (GB): 100 · Speed (Mbps): 1000 → Download time: 13 min 20 s

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to download 50 GB at 100 Mbps?
50 × 8,000 / 100 = 4,000 seconds – about 1 hour 7 minutes in theory.
Why are real downloads slower?
Server speed, Wi-Fi quality, other devices on the network and protocol overhead all reduce the actual speed.
