Tile Calculator
Calculate how many tiles you need for a floor or wall. Free, fast and easy to use.
How it works
Divide the area by the area of one tile and add extra for cuts and breakage — about 10 % for straight laying and 15 % for diagonal patterns. The result is rounded up to whole tiles.
Formula
tiles = area / (L × W) × (1 + waste %)
Worked examples
- Area to cover (m²): 12 · Tile length (cm): 30 · Tile width (cm): 30 · Waste allowance (%): 10 → Tiles needed: 147
- Area to cover (m²): 35 · Tile length (cm): 120 · Tile width (cm): 60 · Waste allowance (%): 15 → Tiles needed: 56

Frequently asked questions
How much extra tile should I buy?
About 10 % for straight laying and 15 % for diagonal or herringbone patterns. Buy all tiles from the same batch so the colour matches.
How many 60 × 30 cm tiles are in 1 m²?
One tile covers 0.18 m², so 1 m² needs 1 / 0.18 ≈ 5.6 tiles before waste.
